Twinning project jointly with the Beneficiary presented the Draft Law on Batteries and Accumulators to the main stakeholders: importers and producers

On 27 April 2017, at the Ministry of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine Draft Law on Batteries and Accumulators developed in tight cooperation of Twinning experts and Beneficiary experts was presented to the targeted audience: importers of batteries, producers and treaters of automotive accumulators, NGOs and other stakeholders. This working meeting was opened by Deputy Minister of Regional Development – Twinning Project Leader on behalf of Beneficiary Eduard Krugliak, who remarked the importance of this Draft Law for Ukraine, because it creates basis for regulation of the sphere of waste batteries and accumulators according to the EU best practices. The presentation of Draft Law was made by Resident Twinning Advisor (RTA) of Twinning project Elina Velinova Stoyanova-Lazarova and Head of Landscaping and Utility Services - BC RTA Counterpart Maksym Barinov. As well, the Spanish experience of the functioning of such similar system described in Draft Law was presented by the Twinning Project Expert Eva Fornes Martinez. After the presentation, the participants of the meeting made some comments, suggestions and remarks and discussed the Draft Law on Batteries and Accumulators that was published in advance on the web-site of the Twinning project This Draft Law was developed taking into account the EU Directive 2006/66/EC on batteries and accumulators and waste batteries and accumulators in order to harmonize the national legislation with the EU legislation in the framework of Association Agreement implementation.
