Fourth Steering Committee Meeting of the Twinning Project on WEEE and Batteries


On 21 February 2017, the Fourth Steering Committee Meeting of the Twinning Project “Introduction of Management System for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and Batteries in Ukraine” took place at the premises of the Ministry of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine.

Deputy Minister of Regional Development and BC Project Leader Eduard Krugliak opened the meeting and in his welcoming speech emphasized the necessity and importance of the project assistance and support for Ukraine order to harmonize it with the EU legislation and introduce sound waste management in the country. The Deputy Mister wished the partners fruitful cooperation for development of the draft legislation on WEEE and waste batteries. Also Mr. Krugliak noted that the presentation of Functioning Model on WEEE and Batteries Management was highly appreciated by the Vice Prime Minister – Minister of Regional Development.

MS Project Leader Johannes Mayer also welcomed the participants and mentioned that system of WEEE and Batteries management is rather technical and complex issue and in order to get acquainted with such systems representatives of the MinRegion and other stakeholders visited Austria, France and Spain and gained the experience of best practices that can be useful while development of the Ukrainian legislation on WEEE and batteries.  

RTA Elina Velinova Stoyanova-Lazarova and BC RTA Counterpart Maksym Barinov presented the implemented activities and outputs during the fourth reporting period and planned activities and experts missions for the fifth quarter of the project. They announced planned coordination and discussions of the draft Laws on batteries and WEEE with all stakeholders for the end of March 2017.

The participants of the Steering Committee also commented on the quarterly report presented for their consideration in advance and discussed some organizational issues concerning the further project implementation.

As well in this Steering Committee participated MS Junior Project Leader on behalf of Spain Eva Fornes Martinez, EU Delegation Task Manager Jean-Francois Moret, Team Leader of APENA Project Ralf Jülich, BC Focal Pint Liudmyla Poltorachenko, Twinning Manager from PAO Inna Bielobratova and others.
